February 01, 2011Press Release: Revere America’s Honorary Chairman George Pataki Steps Down

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 1, 2011 – Revere America, a grassroots organization dedicated to finding free-market solutions to national problems, today announced that former Governor George E. Pataki of New York is stepping down from his position as honorary chairman.

Governor Pataki said, “It has been an honor to lead Revere America through this critical formative period and more importantly to advance the effort to repeal and replace the health care law.  A federal judge has now rightfully declared that law unconstitutional, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to repeal and replace it, and Revere America played an active role in the historic 2010 campaign that made that vote possible. This is an excellent time for me to step down, based on my other commitments and the fact that Revere America has been successfully launched. I will continue to play an active role in our national discussion and will work to advance policies that promote and preserve American freedoms.”

“We are grateful to Governor Pataki for his service to Revere America.  We could not have become as successful a grassroots organization as we have in such a short time without his strong leadership and guidance,” said Marianne R.P. Zuk, president and CEO of Revere America. “Thanks to Governor Pataki’s dedication and energy, Revere America has been able to successfully launch its campaign to advance common sense free-market policies in this country.”

From New Hampshire to Florida, from California to Nevada, Revere America campaigned in over twenty states across the country for common sense policies?that advance free markets, patient choice in health care and long-term prosperity. Revere America spent millions in direct advocacy last year, running ads in targeted districts, sending out 300,000 letters to voters, and placing over 1 million automated phone calls helping to elect dozens of new Representatives and Senators who support the repeal and replace movement.

Governor Pataki said he was encouraged by the overwhelming vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in January to repeal and replace the federal health care law and believes that Revere America is well positioned to continue its efforts in the wake of this milestone. “I am extremely proud to have led Revere America when it collected 1.1 million signatures to repeal and replace the faulty health reform law,” Gov. Pataki said. “We campaigned across the nation for individual freedom and free-market policies and the American people support our mission. I know this is just the beginning of the many victories that Revere America will achieve.”

Revere America is a 501 (c)(4) organization dedicated to advancing common sense public policies that will once again make America secure and prosperous for generations to come.  More information about Revere America, the national petition drive, and the “Pledge to Win” campaign is available at www.revereamerica.org.
